A STUDY ON TED BERRIGAN AND FRENCH
"Why can't I read French? I don't know why can't you?"

TED BERRIGAN
Born on November 15, 1934, in Providence, Rhode Island, Berrigan was part of, and a prominent member of the New York School of Poets, along with his second wife, Alice Notley and some of his closest collaborators such as Ron Padgett and Joe Brainard. Berrigan's work and style was greatly inspired by the likes of Frank O'Hara, American Expressionism, and the late 19th century French Avant-Garde poets.
TED BERRIGAN, THE FRANCOPHILE
The idea behind this website and this project, is to explore the close relationship that exists between Berrigan's works, French poetry and, the French language. So that we may have a better understanding of how Berrigan’s New York School style adapts the works that he’s drawing inspiration from, and how these influences manifest throughout his life and his work.
